We chatted with our in-house designers to find out what design trends are prevalent in 2014.

Vintage inspiration

Throwback patterns and illustrations have always been classic but moving forward we’re seeing a lot of retro-inspired designs with a modern twist. 52 Pick-up designers have always crushed on this aesthetic, just check out our designs for our promotional calendar and the brand work we did for Mildred’s Temple Kitchen (see the photo above).

Handmade Artistry

Designers are getting off the computer and starting to do handmade projects with touches of DIY. Think of woodblock printing, illustrations, letterpress printing and calligraphy. Think outside the box!

Flat design

Digital designers aren’t the only ones going flat, graphic designers are also increasingly using a flat design in their work. If you’re looking for a good introduction to the difference between flat design and realism, check out this awesome interactive by inTacto.

Renewed Typography

Designers are looking into niche fonts that go beyond the typical. Try programs like WebFonts, TypeKit and Google Fonts. Check out our typhography board on Pinterest for inspiration.
